Biography

Raymond Ian Burns was born April 24 in Balham, London. In his youth, he was a member of Oasis, a band specializing in cover versions, then became a member of Johnny Moped and finally joined The Damned in 1976 at the invitation of drummer Rat Skabis . In the group, Sensible was a guitarist, bass player and keyboard player, and after the departure of Brian James - and the main author [4] .

In 1982, Sensible led the UK Singles Chart with its first solo release, a cover of " Happy Talk, " a Rogers-Hammerstein song from the musical South Pacific . Subsequently, the hit parade also included Wot ?, One Christmas Catalog and Glad It's All Over (a song protesting against the Falkland War ). After leaving A&M Records, he continued to record for various independent labels (Deltic Records, Humbug Records).

In 1996, Captain Sensible returned to The Damned (after leaving Skabis) and took part (as co-author of several songs) in the work on Grave Disorder , the band's first studio album in eight years, which was released in 2001. Seven years later, he recorded with The Damned the album So, Who's Paranoid? [7] .

Captain Sensible is a member of the Dead Men Walking supergroup, which also includes Mike Peters ( The Alarm ), Kirk Brandon ( Spear of Destiny ), Slim Jim Phantom ( Stray Cats , The Dr Spacetoad Experience ) [8] .

Political Activities

Until 2006, Captain Sensible was a member of the Green Party of England ( Green Party of England and Wales ). In September 2006, he formed his own political party, Blah! Party [9] , in an official statement which said: “Politics has died. The British public does not vote, because parties completely ignore its opinion. Currently, the only real method of mass protest against this is non-participation in the vote, which is why the number of people participating in the elections is constantly falling. But we believe that voting is an important part of the democratic process and we want Blah! Party became a protest party, a channel through which British citizens could express disappointment with the senselessness of what is happening and protest against the government and the existing set of political parties ” [10] . In 2006, the party signed a sponsorship contract with Seabrook Crisps [11] .
