Valkyrie ( al-Isl. Valkyrja - “choosing the dead”) in Scandinavian mythology is the daughter of a glorious warrior or king who flies on a winged horse above the battlefield and decides which of the soldiers to survive in the battle and who to die. The dead go to the heavenly chamber - Valhalla . Fertilizing dew drips from the mane of her horse (cloud), and light comes from her sword.

In Norse Mythology

Warrior virgins are depicted in armor, helmets with horns or wings [1] , with shields and spears. From the splendor of their armor, according to legend, the aurora appears in the sky.

The mission of the Valkyries is to accompany the fallen heroes to Valhalla. In addition, in Valhalla, Valkyries serve soldiers at the table, delivering honey to them [2] . Sometimes they are given the right to decide the outcome of the battle, and sometimes they only fulfill the orders of Odin . In myths, the Valkyries appear as the daughters of Odin.

In the heroic songs of Elder Edda , the Valkyries acquire the features of female warriors . They figure as beloved heroes of Helg and Velund . Valkyrie Sigrdriv , identified in the following tradition with Brunhild , Odin punishes and sleeps (she will no longer participate in battles and marry) for disobeying him and in the duel between the kings there was no victory for Hjalm-Gunnar (to whom Odin promised victory), and to Agnar ; she is awakened by the great hero Siegfried (Elder Edda, Sigrdriva Speech).
