Origin from the French name for the Ottawa River.

History
University programs began in 1971 at the University Center in Ottawa . In 1981 , during the reign of René Leveque from the Quebec Party , the center received the title of university.
Until 2002, the University was called the University of Quebec at Halle, the name was changed after the merger of the cities of Quebec , Gatineau , Elmer , Masson-Angers and Buckingham into the new city of Gatineau . The new name reflected the administrative district in which the university is located.
Every year about 6,000 students attend classes at UCO. Since its inception, the university has issued more than 27,000 diplomas.

Moreover, a student can also create a separate library account and request thousands and thousands of documents, including newspaper articles, books, audio documents, or scientific journals. When the requested document is not in the university library, students can order them, even if they are in another country.
2005 student strike
During the strike, 200,000 students in Quebec in 2005 were joined by UKO students who had not attended classes for 3 weeks - from March 14 to April 7. The strike was organized after the provincial government cut scholarship funds by $ 103 million and turned the money into loans.
