Goal kick

The ball is considered to be scored when it has completely crossed the goal line between the posts and under the crossbar, provided that the team that scored the ball did not violate the rules of the game.

So, in particular, a goal does not count if:

  • when the ball crossed the goal line, it was not in play ;
  • the ball was hammered into the goal of the opposing team directly from a free kick, went into the goal because of a sideline after a throw-in, or rally of a “controversial ball”, without touching anyone;
  • if the ball was scored by a team into its own goal immediately after a shot from the goal, corner, free-kick or free kick, went into the goal after a throw-in, then a corner kick will be put into the goal of the team that took their goal.

Winner Determination

The winner is the team that scores more goals during the match. If both teams score the same number of goals or do not score a single goal, the match is considered to be a draw.

Match Winner (Match Series) Procedure

If the match ended in a draw or as a result of a series of matches a tie was established, and the rules of the competition require a winner, the following mechanisms can be used (the procedure for applying them is determined by the rules of the competition).

Away goals

In a series of matches where the teams play an equal number of matches at home and away, in case of an equal result according to the results of a series of matches, the winner will be the team that scored the most goals away.

Extra time

See also Extra time # In football

The rules of the competition may provide for the appointment of two equal additional periods, lasting no more than 15 minutes each. In this case, the provisions of Rule 8 apply.

11-meter kick series

After the end of the game, teams take turns in each of 5 strokes from the 11-meter mark (the number of strokes may be less - if one team scores more than the other could score, even after completing all 5 strokes - or more if, after the end of the series, 5 strokes the score will be equal; in this case, the execution of strokes continues until the equality is violated). The team that scores the most goals with the same number of shots is declared the winner.

Automatic Goal Detection System

On July 5, 2012, the International Council of Football Associations officially approved a system for automatic goal detection , which allows the use of technical means to determine goals. [one]

At the national team level, the system was first applied at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
