Biography
Thira was the sister of Frederick VIII , King of Denmark, Queen of Great Britain Alexander , George I , King of Greece, and Empress of Russia Maria Fedorovna .
Thira was an attractive young woman with dark hair and dark blue eyes. Queen Louise wanted her youngest daughter to make a party as brilliant as the older ones. The first bridegroom of Tyra was King Willem III of the Netherlands , but since he was 36 years older than the bride, there was a refusal. He later married Emma Waldeck-Pyrmont . Their daughter was Wilhelmina , whose descendants now sit on the throne of the Netherlands.
On December 21, 1878 in Copenhagen, she married Crown Prince Ernst August of Hanover , 3rd Duke of Cumberland and Teviotdale, the only son of King Hanover George V and his wife, Princess Maria of Saxe-Altenburg .
Even before marriage, Tire was in love with William Freeman Marcher, a cavalry lieutenant. The result of their romance was the pregnancy of the princess [2] . Her brother George I invited her to give birth in Athens to avoid scandal; The Danish press reported that Tyra was ill with jaundice [2] . She gave birth to a daughter, Maria, on November 8, 1871 in the castle of Glucksburg. Shortly after birth, the girl was adopted by Rasmus and Anna Marie Jorgensen. She was given a new name - Kate; in 1902 she got married, and in 1964 she died [3] . Marcher committed suicide on January 4, 1872 after a clash with the king.
