The CN Tower is the tallest free-standing structure in the world from 1976 to 2007 . Its height is 553.3 meters . Located in Toronto ( Canada , Ontario ) and is a symbol of this city.

Initially, the abbreviation CN was deciphered as Canadian National (since the building belonged to the state company Canadian National Railways at that time). However, in 1995, the tower was purchased by Canada Lands Company (CLC). Toronto residents wanted to keep the former name of the tower, so now the abbreviation CN officially stands for Canada's National .
It is the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere .
Earthwork for the construction of reinforced concrete structures with the subsequent tension of reinforcement weighing 130,000 tons began on February 12, 1973 , and on April 2, 1975 the construction of the tower was completed.
