Castle Waldeck ( German: Schloss Waldeck ) - a medieval castle located in Germany on the banks of the dam lake Edersee on the river Eder in the federal state of Hesse in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district near the city of the same name . The castle was founded in the 12th century . After the castle passed into the possession of Volkwin II , Count Schwalenberg (1136 / 1137–1177 / 1178), its name entered the count's title and became the name of the sovereign house of Waldeck .
