Biography
Ivan Kosenko was born on May 2, 1921 in the city of Kramatorsk, Donetsk Region, in the family of an entrepreneur. Russian .
He graduated from high school. He worked at the Kramatorsk engineering plant . In the Red Army and on the front of the Great Patriotic War since July 1943.
In hostilities, private Kosenko began as a signalman for the 16th Mortar Regiment (33rd Mortar Brigade, 2nd Guards Artillery Division of the RVGK breakthrough). In April – May 1944, the 2nd Guards Artillery Division of the RVGK was attached to the 2nd Guards Army (Commander-in-Chief, Lieutenant-General Zakharov G.F. ), which was part of the 4th Ukrainian Front . The army after redeployment to the Perekop isthmus area participated in the liberation of the Crimea. Private Kosenko in battles at the Perekopsky isthmus on April 8, 1944, corrected up to 25 impulses on the telephone line, ensuring uninterrupted communication. In the area of the settlement of Djulga (Crimea), during a counterattack of the enemy, a tank was hit by a grenade, and the crew that left it was destroyed by fire from a machine gun. He carried out a wounded battalion commander from the battlefield, provided him with medical assistance. March 21, 1944 awarded the Order of Glory 3 degrees .
From July 1944, an artillery division (division commander, Major General of Artillery Yakovlev Ivan Alekseevich) was assigned to the 11th Army ( 3rd Belorussian Front ) and participated in the East Prussian and Konigsberg offensive operations.
Already the reconnaissance of the same 16th mortar regiment, 33rd mortar brigade ( brigade commander, Colonel Shashlov Tikhon Fedorovich) Ivan Kosenko February 28, 1945 on the outskirts of the city of Koenigsberg (now Kaliningrad), monitored the actions of the enemy, promptly reported about them to the commander. Having found a group of Nazis in an ambush, dispersed it and partially destroyed it with two grenades. On his target designation, a group of enemy soldiers was covered with mortar fire. May 25, 1945 awarded the Order of Glory 2 degrees.
On April 6-7, 1945, during the assault on the city of Königsberg, observing from the front edge of the infantry, Kosenko revealed 3 machine guns, 2 AP. These targets were soon destroyed by mortar fire. In street battles, Kosenko destroyed more than 10 soldiers from a machine gun and grenades, knocked out 2 vehicles with military cargo and captured 6 Nazis. In the basement of one of the houses found an enemy group of spotters. In a fight with them destroyed four soldiers. May 31, 1945 awarded the Order of Glory 2 degrees.
Then there were heavy battles for the fortress of Pillau (now Baltiysk ), which was taken on April 26, 1945.
Since the time between submissions to orders was short, Kosenko became a holder of two orders of Glory of the second degree, this injustice was eliminated after the war. October 24, 1966 Kosenko was rewarded with the Order of Glory of 1 degree.
In 1945, Sergeant Kosenko was demobilized. He lived in the town of Shakhty, Rostov region , worked at a cotton mill.
He died on February 1, 1996, and was buried in the central cemetery of the city.
