Biography
Born in 1918 in the village of Gumista, now within the city of Sukhum, the Republic of Abkhazia , in the family of an employee. Armenian
Harutyun's parents raised three sons and two daughters. Harutyun studied at Gumistinskaya junior high school as “excellent”. After graduating in 1935, he entered the Sukhumi Armenian secondary school, where his abilities were even more pronounced. He was an active social activist. School graduated with excellent performance.
In the Red Army from November 1939. I filed a report and enrolled in the Zhytomyr Infantry School, which he graduated in 1941 and was promoted to lieutenant . Member of the CPSU (b) since 1942.
The Great Patriotic War found Lieutenant Chakryan in Rostov-on-Don in the unit that held camp camps. Soon, he and a group of officers who graduated from college went to Avchalu (near Tbilisi ), where he was preparing to replenish the front at a field school.
In the summer of 1942, on the heroic days of the defense of the Caucasus, Chakryan appealed to the command with a request to send him to the front. The request was granted. Lieutenant Chakryan was appointed commander of a rifle company as part of the 77th rifle division . From the very first defensive battles in August 1942 at the turn of the village of Verkhnebakansky on the outskirts of Novorossiysk, he showed himself to be a strong-willed and courageous commander. His military achievements in defending the hero city were awarded two medals "For Courage" .
In 1943, Senior Lieutenant Chakryan participated in the liberation of many villages of the Krasnodar Territory , a breakthrough of the Blue Line on Taman . In September 1943, the 77th rifle division was transferred to the northern coast of the Azov Sea , where the Chakryan battalion, together with the 384th separate marine battalion, participated in the storming of the city of Taganrog . For the liberation of Taganrog, Chakryan was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree.
In November 1943, the 77th rifle division was transferred to the 51st Army , and the battalion of Captain Chakryan crossed over to the Sivash bridgehead, captured by the troops of this army at the northern tip of Crimea .
In April 1944, the period of offensive actions of the 276th rifle regiment of the 77th rifle division from Sivash to Sapun-mount Chakryan, operating in the head march of the battalion, on April 11, 1944, in the area of the village of Kirk-Ishun, engaged in battle with the enemy. With bold and decisive action, the town of Kirk-Ishun was taken from the turn. In this battle, Chakryan personally destroyed 8 soldiers and 2 enemy officers.
Skillfully and courageously acted Chakryan in other battles. From April 15 to April 18, 1944, on the orders of the command, he led a group of fighters left behind on the march. On the way, his group in the area of the mountains of Mangup-Kale and Shuudan engaged in battle with the Hitler division that was hiding in the Crimean caves. Being wounded, he did not leave the battlefield, he continued to command his group. Hitler's "partisans" were destroyed.
Chakryan particularly distinguished himself in battles for the glorious hero city of Sevastopol. He fearlessly led his fighters to assault Sapun Mountain, the most important fortified position of the Nazis on the approaches to Sevastopol.
At 5 am on May 7, 1944, the offensive began. The fascists sought to keep their positions at any cost, but nothing could stop our units. Overcoming everything in their path, they moved forward. The battle for each trench turned into hand-to-hand combat, in which privates and commanders had to participate. Chakryan personally destroyed 10 soldiers and 21 enemy officers in this battle. The unit captured 60 fascists and was the first to reach the top of the Sapun-mountain, shrouded in smoke, where the red flag was hoisted.
On May 8, 1944, during the attack on Sevastopol, a fascist bullet mortally wounded Captain Chakrian. The unit soldiers swore revenge for the death of their commander, and bravely went into battle, continuing their offensive. On May 9, 1944, they liberated Sevastopol.
Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR N. M. Shvernik on January 31, 1948 wrote to the father of the Hero of the Soviet Union Khachik Arutyunovich Chakryan:
“According to the Military Command, your son, captain Chakryan Harutyun Khachikovich, died a brave death in battles for the Soviet homeland. ... I am sending you the letter of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on conferring on your son the title Hero of the Soviet Union for storage as a memory of the son-hero, the feat of which will never be forgotten by our people. "
He was buried in the Crimea in the village of Upper Chorgun (near Sevastopol).
Awards
- By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 24, 1945, for exemplary performance of combat missions of command on the front of the struggle against the German fascist invaders and the courage and heroism shown to Captain Chakrian Arutyun Khachikovich awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously).
