Biography

He was born on July 3, 1922 in the village of Prishib, now in the Kremenchug district of the Poltava region, in a peasant family. Ukrainian .

He graduated from ten classes of high school, in 1940 - a teacher's institute in Kharkov.

In 1940 he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army. In 1941 he graduated from the Saratov Tank School . In the battles of World War II - from June 1941. He fought on the North-West, Leningrad, Kalinin, 3rd Belorussian fronts. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1942.

The tanker Pyotr Feshchenko met the war in Lithuania. Then he fought on the Leningrad and Kalinin fronts as part of the 8th tank brigade under the command of P. A. Rotmistrov . He took part in the battles near Moscow, near the city of Klin, and then in the Battle of Stalingrad. For successful military operations in the Kotelnikovo area near Stalingrad, the 3rd Guards Tank Corps, in which P.V. Feshchenko served, was given the name Kotelnikovsky. Then the twenty-year officer was awarded the Order of the Red Banner.

During the offensive battles of 1943, P.V. Feshchenko fought against the German troops in the Kharkov region, liberated Zolochev, Bogodukhov. As part of the 19th Guards Tank Brigade of the 5th Tank Army, he fought with the enemy until Victory Day. In June 1944, Soviet troops fought fierce battles in Belarus. When Smolyan and Tolochin were released from the guard, captain P.V. Feshchenko demonstrated excellent commanding abilities and courage. The battalion, which he commanded, was given the task of acting as an advanced detachment of Soviet troops advancing in the direction of Minsk.

For three days of heavy fighting between June 25 and 27, 1944, tankers destroyed fifteen self-propelled guns, forty armored personnel carriers, two anti-tank batteries, more than two hundred vehicles, and captured about two thousand enemy soldiers and officers. At the Tolochin railway station, guards captured several enemy trains with ammunition, food and equipment. The battalion P.V. Feshchenko entered the Orsha-Minsk road in the vicinity of the village of Ozerytsi and cut off the German units of the retreat.

For participating in the liberation of the capital of Belarus, the 19th Guards Tank Brigade received the name "Minsk". After successful battles in Belarus, the 1st tank battalion P.V. Feshchenko liberated the cities and villages of Poland, one of the first units of the Soviet troops crossed the border of East Prussia.

In 1946, Feshchenko graduated from the Higher Officer School of Armored Forces . Since 1947 - in stock. In 1950 he graduated from the Kharkov Pedagogical Institute , in 1952 - the regional party school. Since 1961 he served in the state security organs, was the head of the departments of the KGB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Kharkov region [1] .

Since 1975, Major General P.V. Feshchenko - retired. He lived in Kharkov. He died on October 10, 1992 . He was buried in Kharkov at cemetery No. 2.

Rewards

  • By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for the exemplary performance of the combat missions of the command during the liberation of Belarus and the courage and heroism of the guard shown to this, Captain Pyotr Vasilyevich Feshchenko was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 7673) .
