The area of ​​the lake is 15 km² and the maximum depth is 67 m. Length - about 18 km, width - up to 1.49 km. The rivers Bratey, Rotei, Trut-Bek and a number of smaller ones flow into the lake. Stoke along the Leuven River [1] to the Morecambe Bay of the Irish Sea . Height above sea level - 39 m, the lowest point of the bottom of the lake is much lower than sea level.

Small islands in the center of the lake form picturesque groups. The largest of the 18 islets is Bel Isle (area - about 16 hectares). The lake is surrounded by forested hills [2] .

The main settlements on the lake are the cities of Ambleside , Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere .

Lacustrine fauna

Such fish species are found in the lake as: pike , perch , carp , trout , European eel , roach , golden tench , minnow , sculpin, three-spined stickleback [3] .

The English romantic poets William Wordsworth , Samuel Coleridge and Robert Southey , who were part of the Lake School, sang Windermere in their poems. Windermere Lake is currently a popular tourist attraction.
