Sazonov, Athanasius Illarionovich

The early years

Born into a peasant family in the village of Bolshoi (Lower) South, Osinsky district ^{[1] of the} Perm province.

He worked on the collective farm first as a collective farmer, then as a foreman.

During the Great Patriotic War

In the Red Army since 1941 , since January 1942, a participant in the Great Patriotic War .

Petty Officer A. Sazonov distinguished himself on the night of September 27, 1943 in the battles during the crossing of the Dnieper .

The 7th Guards Cavalry Corps of General M.P. Konstantinov is located a kilometer from the Dnieper . By order of the captain’s division commanderA. I. Fendrikova, foreman Sazonov was one of the first with three calculations of anti-tank rifles to cross the Dnieper on a connected raft and start a battle, thereby giving the rest of the regiment the opportunity to cross.

At nightfall, seven heavily armed guardsmen were the first to sail offshore. No matter how the fighters tried, they could not swim unnoticed. During the shelling from the waves and rolling, the raft began to disintegrate into logs. Sazonov in full combat gear rushed into the water, grabbed a log and began to save an anti-tank rifle . The remaining fighters followed the example of the foreman. Holding a heavy load, people slowly sailed to the shore.

Having a little rest, Sazonov decided to attack the positions of the Germans. Approaching the trenches of the enemy, the soldiers threw grenades at them and bursting into the trenches, began to destroy the firing points of the Nazis. Having gained a foothold, they fought for more than 2 hours, repelling several enemy counterattacks, before the arrival of the main forces.

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 15, 1944, for the exemplary fulfillment of command assignments and the courage and heroism shown during crossing the Dnieper Guard, Sergeant Sazonov Athanasius Illarionovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.

Peacetime

In 1945, the guard foreman Sazonov A.I. was demobilized from the ranks of the Red Army . Until 1949 he lived and worked as a traveler in the Chernushinsky district of the Perm region .

In 1949 he moved to Kuzbass . He worked at the state farm "Bezrukovsky" of the Novokuznetsk district of the Kemerovo region , then in Novokuznetsk in the management of the water supply and sewage system and housing of the city executive committee. He died on January 28, 1987 .

• The bust of A.I. Sazonov, among the twelve Heroes of the Soviet Union and two full gentlemen of the Order of Glory , residents of the Chernushinsky district , is installed on the Walk of Glory, opened on May 9, 2010 in the city of Chernushka .
