Distribution
Plants of this family are found in the tropics of North and South America , in continental Africa , Madagascar , New Guinea , Australia , New Caledonia [2] .
Biological Description
Representatives of the family are trees and shrubs.
Many members of the family are characterized by serrated oppositely arranged leaves with cirrus venation, and the presence of glands on the leaves is also characteristic [2] .
In most species of the family, myrmecochoria is observed [2] .
Usage
- Australian aborigines make boomerangs from plants of the Dissiliaria balghioides species [5] .
- The wood of trees of the type Oldfieldia africana ( Oldfieldia africana ) is valued in shipbuilding and is exported [5] .
Classification
Classification History
The Picrodendraceae family was previously considered as a subfamily of Oldfieldioideae in the Euphorbiaceae family . Even earlier, the genera included in the family were included in the subfamily Phyllanthoideae of the Euphorbiaceae family (now the Filantov family is also independent) [5] .
In each nest of ovaries , the representatives of the family have two ovules (unlike representatives of the euphorbia, in which the ovaries have one ovum). Another difference between picrodendra and euphorbiae is the absence of milky juice [5] .
The synonymy of the family includes the following names [2] :
- Androstachyaceae airy shaw
- Micrantheaceae J. agardh
- Paivaeusaceae A.Meeuse
- Pseudanthaceae Endl.
