Geographical position
The village of Glinsk is located on the right bank of the Sula River [1] , the village of Surmachevka is located 1.5 km upstream , the village of Cheberyaki is located downstream 4 km away and the village of Melniki on the opposite bank. The river in this place is winding, forming estuaries, old ladies and marshy lakes.
History
- On the territory of the village of Glinsk people settled long ago: a settlement of the Neolithic era (IV thousand BC) and bronze (II thousand BC), an ancient settlement and a burial ground of Scythian times (VIII – III century BC) were discovered. e.), ancient settlements of the northerners VIII-X Art. and the times of Kievan Rus. To the north-west of Glinsk, the contours of the ancient settlement of Gorodishche with an area of 12 hectares survived. On the hill Mogilki in the village there are burials of northerners of the X century and glades of the XI century.
- The earliest surviving written record of the village of Glinsk dates from the year 1320 .
- Since 1363, Glinsk in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In the second half of the 14th century, the Grand Duke of Lithuania, Vitovt, presented Glinsk to the Tatar prince Leksade , the founder of the dynasty of princes Glinsky . Turning to the Grand Duchy of Moscow, M. L. Glinsky, one of the descendants of Lexada, became an influential person at the court of the Grand Duke of Moscow, Vasily III . Glinsky's niece Elena became the wife of the Prince of Moscow and the mother of Tsar Ivan IV the Terrible .
In 1569, Glinsk became part of the Commonwealth.
- In 1632, the Polish king Sigismund III granted Glinsk to the treasure clerk F. Mirovitsky, then the cornet A. Konetspolsky owned it, in 1646 it was captured by Prince I. Vishnevetsky , from which Glinsk received self-government and a coat of arms.
- Since 1649, the city became the center of the Glinsk hundreds. In addition to the centurion, the city was also governed by the town hall. During the liberation war of the Ukrainian people against Poland, the Glinsk hundred fought as part of the Mirgorod regiment.
- After 1654, the city is part of Russia. Since 1659 - as part of the Lubensky regiment.
- In the years 1708-1709. in the Glinsk region, hostilities took place between the Russian and Swedish armies. On December 18, 1708, the Swedes made a march from Romain in the direction of Gadyach, the frost was so severe that 80 Swedes froze on the road near Glinsk. Their graves are not preserved.
- In the last quarter of the 18th century, a detachment of Haidama Seeds Garkusha acted in the Glinsk region.
- In 1782, by the decree of Catherine the Second, Glinsk received city status and became the county center of the Chernihiv governorship , but in 1796 he was taken out of the state and assigned to the Little Russian province , and from 1802 to the Romny district of the Poltava province .
According to the census of 1897, 3533 people lived in Glinsk, including Little Russia - 90.9%; Jews - 7.7% [2] .
In 1923, Glinsk was deprived of city status and became a village, the center of the Glinsky district of the Romny district of the Poltava province.
During the Great Patriotic War , under the conditions of the German occupation, an underground organization emerged in Glinsk, the members of which created a partisan detachment. In 1943, with the approach to the regional center of the front line, the detachment prevented an explosion of the bridge located here across the Sulu river and held the bridge until the approach of the Soviet troops, after which, together with the units of the Red Army, participated in the battle for the liberation of Glinsk [3] .
According to the 2001 census, the population was 1,654 people [4] .
