Biography

Born March 18, 1923 at the Timashevo station of the former Kuybyshevsky district of the Kuibyshev region (now an urban-type village of Kinel-Cherkassky district of the Samara region), in a working class family. Russian

After graduating from the 8th grade of the school, he entered the railway school in 1940 and became an assistant driver. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1947 .

In the fall of 1942 he was drafted into the army, studied at the Frunze Military Infantry School, in connection with the order on the reorganization of infantry schools, he did not receive an officer rank and was promoted to sergeant for retraining in the forming airborne units near the city of Noginsk, Moscow Region. With the rank of sergeant guard and the post of division commander in the 300th GSP of the 99th GSD, in early June 1944 he arrived on the Karelian Front as part of the 37th Guards Rifle Corps.

Feat

At this time, preparations were underway for the offensive to liberate Soviet Karelia. Warrior paratroopers joined the teachings and training of the 7th Army to overcome water barriers and break through a heavily fortified enemy defense line. On the crossing section of the river. Svir had a width of 350-400 m, a depth of 4 to 7 m. The flow rate was 0.4-0.6 m per second. The enemy prepared two lines of defense in advance here. The first, three kilometers deep, consisted of three lines of full profile trenches and wire and minefields stretching along the front edge, installed directly near the shore and even in the water. At the breakthrough site, 52 enemy firing points were explored, including 21 bunkers adapted for conducting cross, flanking and cut-off fires. The second defensive line included strongholds built in villages, convenient for this narrow places - swampy glades, clearings. All approaches to them were literally stuffed with mines. Since there was no certainty that all the firing points had been explored and that during the preparation of the offensive it would be possible to suppress the enemy’s fire system, the command decided to organize a false crossing with the aim of causing fire from all the enemy’s means, forcing them to “speak up” firing points that had not yet been suppressed, to give the ability of our artillery to detect them and destroy them before the actual crossing. For this, 12 volunteers from the 300th Guards Regiment were recruited. All of them were honestly warned that the group was created to cause the fire of all the enemy’s weapons on themselves and the chances of survival were negligible. Guard sergeant Malyshev V.A. grew up on the Volga, was good at swimming and volunteered to take part in this operation among the same daredevils. Rafts with stuffed soldiers sitting on them were prepared for a false crossing. The three paratroopers had one raft, which they had to hide behind them to tow in front of themselves to the enemy shore. Sailing was in boots and uniforms. Each had an automatic machine with six cartridges and even 720 rounds.

At 7 hours and 40 minutes on June 21, 1944, artillery preparation began, which lasted 3 hours and 30 minutes. Aviation bombed the front line of the enemy’s defense. 15 minutes before the ceasefire, 12 brave men began a false crossing. The surviving guns, mortars and machine guns of the enemy began firing on the crossing. In Malyshev’s three, the raft was defeated by a direct hit by a Finnish shell on our shore. The guards rushed into the water and swam. And although our cannonade was still booming, a minute later the Finnish coast thundered with fire. The Finns hit the daredevils from all types of weapons. Cold Svir water carried to Ladoga, a heavy load of cartridges pulled to the bottom. Steel helmets bent their heads to the water - it was difficult to even raise it to inhale a breath of fresh air. From a distance, it seemed that only helmets were floating. But they sailed, struggling with the current, the Finns saw that people are alive, swimming, approaching the northern shore. And this caused another flurry of fire. Water boiled around them from mines, bullets and shells. But they did their job - they forced the Finns to open hidden firing points hidden before the start of crossing the river. Daredevils not only managed to cross to the other side, but also burst into the first trench, which, moreover, was mined. To the surprise of colleagues who crossed over after them, all 12 volunteers remained alive and joined their platoon. I found my own and Malyshev. After some time, his landing platoon had to lie down at the clearing - from somewhere the Finnish cuckoo sniper accurately beat. Soon they managed to make out a sniper sitting in the crown of a tree. The platoon opened fire on the target, the leaves flew around from the bullets, but the sniper continued to shoot. He buried his head in his chest, as if asleep, a signalman. The bullet pierced the headphone of the radio. The commander sent the guards. Sergeant Malyshev remove the cuckoo. When he managed to get closer to the cuckoo's position from the rear, he saw that a dummy was hanging in the tree’s crown, and a sniper, a hefty red-haired Finn, was firing lying under another tree. He crawled closer, pulled out a captured trophy from the bootleg and finished it off. The platoon continued the offensive.

On that day, Svir was forced all over from Lake Onega to Lake Ladoga, from Ascension to Lodeynoye Field. The liberation of Karelia has begun. On that day, Moscow saluted the heroes with volleys of salute. All twelve daredevils remained alive and were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
