Feat
On February 24, 1940, the younger commander of the platoon Gafiatulla Araslanov took part in the destruction of the Finnish bunker.
Our troops under the command of Marshal Semyon Tymoshenko February 21, 1940 broke through the enemy’s defenses on a 12-kilometer front section. It was the so-called Mannerheim Line - a deeply layered system of protective reinforced concrete structures. To enter the breakthrough and consolidate the success should have been our armored units. They included a platoon with a machine of a tower shooter Araslanov. His task was to destroy the Finnish bunker, which conducted a wide shelling of the terrain, preventing our infantry from attacking and moving forward.
Making the most of the terrain, the platoon tried to get as close to the bunker as possible, without revealing itself and without being exposed to a shot. But there, behind the embrasure, they also did not doze off, were on the alert. And now the machine of the platoon commander Pronin has already been hit. Following her, a second tank stopped. When the crew of Araslanov approached the bunker at 60-70 meters, the car immediately received four holes, but, despite this, Gafiat returned fire. Two shells hit the target. The gun in the bunker fell silent. Araslanov, having thrown back a tower cover, has jumped down on snow. He crawled to the neighbor of the damaged tanks and climbed into it to help the wounded. They opened fire again from the bunker, but not from the cannon, but from the machine gun. When the shooting stopped, Araslanov decided to crawl to the second tank. He was already at the target, when he suddenly noticed how several Finns in white camouflage uniforms were crawling towards the same tank, apparently with the aim of encircling it and taking wounded tankmen captive. Araslanov opened fire on them, taking them to flight. Then he pressed the starter: the motor rattled, the shells did not damage it. Taking all the wounded, he brought the tank out of the battlefield under heavy machine-gun fire from the enemy and saved the lives of four of his comrades-in-arms. This fight took place on February 24th. Our troops, despite the stubborn resistance of the enemy, continued to advance. And on March 12, Finland surrendered. The border line with it, according to the conditions of surrender, moved northward; the Karelian Isthmus with the city of Vyborg moved to us. The potential threat to Leningrad, which existed due to the proximity of external borders to the city, thus passed.
