Biography
Magnus Leopold Genning was born in 1774.
On June 10, 1794, he entered the naval battalions as a captain army and in the same year was promoted to sergeant. Starting from this year, until 1799, Genning was annually sailing in the Gulf of Finland . May 1, 1796 he was promoted to warrant officer .
In the years 1799-1800, Genning was sequentially on the ship "St. Ianuary ”and frigate “ Venus ”of the post of flag officer under Rear Admiral Breyer ; then he was sailing off the coast of England and cruising in the German Sea off the island of Texela , took part in naval landings in Holland .
From 1801 to 1804 he sailed the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea and on December 31, 1804 he was promoted to lieutenant and left at the port of Kronstadt , on October 18, 1806 he was assigned to the Naval Cadet Corps for the position of lieutenant; until that time was in the port of Kronstadt.
In 1807, Genning sailed with midshipmen between St. Petersburg and the island of Seskar on the Maly frigate , and the following year he commanded the No. 1 bombardier floating battery at the mouth of the Neva . In 1809, he again sailed with midshipmen in the Kronstadt raid on the Grace ship and on January 8 of the following year he was promoted to captain. At this time, he was cruising in the Gulf of Finland on the frigate Amphitrid. Then, the following year, Genning spent at the Marine Corps and on December 12 was renamed Lieutenant Captain , leaving with the corps, and in 1812 was again in sailing when the Marine Corps was moved from St. Petersburg to Sveaborg .
In 1813 he brought the 2nd cadet company by shore from Sveaborg to St. Petersburg, after which, commanding the Small fry frigate and the Simeon and Anna brig , he sailed with midshipmen between St. Petersburg and Kronstadt. In 1814, he was appointed commander of the 3rd cadet company in the Naval Corps, and from the next year until 1817, commanding the corps vessels, he again sailed with midshipmen between St. Petersburg and Stireuden.
On March 14, 1816, Genning was placed on a captain's position. In 1818, he again sailed with midshipmen between St. Petersburg and Krasnaya Gorka, continuing to command the corps vessels. In 1820, commanding the frigates "Small" and "Urania", he again sailed with midshipmen at Krasnaya Gorka and was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir 4th degree. Second Order, St. George IV class, Genning received December 16, 1821 for the immaculate length of service for 25 years in officer ranks (No. 3598 according to the cavalier list of Grigorovich - Stepanov).
On August 30, 1824 he was promoted to captain of the 2nd rank, and on April 29, 1826 he was moved to the present corps office. The following year, October 14, 1827, Genning was awarded the Order of St. Anne of the 2nd degree, and on December 8 promoted to captain of the 1st rank, with the abandonment of the same corps.
On April 10, 1832, Genning received the rank of Major General and was appointed captain of the Revel port, but two years later, due to illness, he left the service and remained out of work until 1836, when he recovered, re-entered the service and was appointed to the post of commander of the Astrakhan port and the Caspian flotilla , with the renaming of rear admirals . At this time, the Caspian flotilla consisted of 14 warships. In 1838 he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the 3rd degree.
Maxim Matveevich Genning died in Astrakhan on February 2, 1839 in the city of Astrakhan.
Genning, according to the recall of his former pupil in the Marine Corps of N. A. Engelhardt [1] , was a bile and very severe man.
