Distribution and Ecology

In nature , the species range covers the Mediterranean , Asia Minor , Iran , Armenia , India , China , Japan , as well as America , Australia and all of Africa . Described from Italy and Africa .

It grows on desert and steppe slopes, along the banks of rivers and lakes, on the shallows. Often a weed plant in crops of cotton , soybeans , corn , dzhugara , alfalfa , rice and other crops.

Biological Description

Bud

An annual herbaceous plant 5–75 cm high. The stem is straight, angularly curved in nodes, covered with stiff hairs, branched; lower branches elongated, rising or lying.

Leaves with petioles equal to or almost equal to the leaf. At the first leaves, the plate is whole or weakly lobed, scapular or round-oval, at the base rounded or slightly cordate. The lower leaves have a three-lobed or tripartite, with wide, upwardly directed lobes. The rest of the leaves have a lamina dissected into three oblong, cirrus-separated or cirrus-lobed lobes. All leaves on top are glabrous or rarely bristly, green, paler below, bristly and hairy. Stipules awl-shaped, long-ciliated.

The flowers are solitary, located in the axils of the leaves. Pedicels longer than petioles or almost equal to them, densely covered with stiff hairs. The subchain consists of 10–13 linear ciliated leaflets. Calyx is pale, bell-shaped, with twenty hairy longitudinal veins of purple color, between the veins naked or with stellate hairs, with flowers 10-15 mm high, with fruits 15-30 mm high. Corolla 17–33 mm, pale yellow, in the throat with a large purple spot. Petals obovate or oblong obovate, rounded at the top, narrowed downward, covered externally with scattered hairs.

The fruit is shorter than the calyx, seed 2-3 mm long and 1.75-2.5 mm wide, kidney-shaped or irregularly kidney-shaped, bare, densely covered with warts, red-brown, gray-brown or even olive in color.

It blooms in June-October, bears fruit in June-November.

Meaning and Application

Sometimes grown as an ornamental plant .
