Surkov's grave in Demidov

He was born on February 10, 1925 in the village of Vladimirovka, now in the Hvorostyansky District, Samara Region, in a peasant family. Russian. He graduated from 7 classes, courses of combine operators. He worked at MTS and the collective farm . Member of the Komsomol .

In the Red Army since February 1943. He studied at the Kuibyshev Infantry School , which he did not graduate due to being sent to the front.

In the battles of World War II from August 1, 1943. He fought on the Kalinin front . Participated in the Dukhovschinsky offensive operation .

The submachine gunner V.I. Surkov in the area of ​​the village of Tarasovo ( Dukhovshchinsky district of the Smolensk region ) on September 13, 1943, at a critical moment of the battle, rushed to the enemy’s machine gun and closed it with his body. At the cost of his life, he contributed to the performance of the combat mission by the company.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 4, 1944 "for exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders and courage and heroism shown at the same time, Red Army soldier Surkov Vasily Ivanovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumous).

He was buried in the city of Demidov, Smolensk region.
