History
In ancient times, the city of Middel was located on this territory. In the XI century, the city was included in the Cilician Armenian kingdom . After the Turks moved to this region, the city began to be called the Jackels . In the XV century, the Mamluks owned this area, then they were defeated by the Turkish Sultan Selim I and included these lands in the Ottoman Empire . At that time, the Turkish tribe Ramazanogullary lived in these places, and in honor of one of its leaders, the city was renamed Karaisaly . Despite the settlement of the area by Turks, until the beginning of the 20th century, the majority of the local population were Armenians, who were completely destroyed and expelled during the Armenian Genocide, but this topic is taboo in modern Turkey.
