In 1198 and 1210-1211 he made two trips to Rome and, probably, to Bologna law school.

In 1202 he became a priest.

In 1205 he went to the Norbertine monastery in Shussenride , where in 1205 he became a canon , and in 1209 he was elected probst .

C 1215 - probst of the Norbertine monastery in Ursberg; probably remained them until his death.

In Schussenried (according to other sources, from 1229 ) he began to write a world chronicle, known as the “ Ursberg Chronicle, ” for which Eckhart from Zwieftenen was taken as a model. Burchard used quotations from the chronicles of Frutolf and Eckhart, oral reports, German and Italian chronicles, as well as his own information (from the time of Henry VI ). The Ursberg Chronicle essentially tells the imperial history before the beginning of 1230, being a continuation of the chronicles of Frutolf and Eckhart. The connection of the Ursberg chronicle with the official chronicles of the court of the first Hohenstaufen has not yet been fully elucidated, however, the “Progogenstaufskaya” tendency, the “disposition” of Burhard to Hohenstaufen, is noted. With the participation described the story from Henry VI to Frederick II , in connection with which the chronicle contains a number of critical remarks about the papacy . At the same time, Burchard also spoke out against the legal ignorance of the Germans. Despite some errors, compilations and repetitions, the Ursberg Chronicle perfectly describes its time and can be considered characteristic of the dissemination of the political views of the Hohenstaufen.

The exact date of Burchard's death remains controversial [1] .

After the death of Burchard, the chronicle was continued by Konrad from Lichtenau .
