Nad Ozerom

“Nad Ozerom” is a short film by the Russian director Dmitry Frolov based on the works of Alexander Blok . The film is not a film adaptation in the usual way: it is a reconstruction of the cinema of the early XX century, made by our contemporaries. Being a poetic and philosophical reflection of the perception of poetry by A. Blok, the film at the same time reproduces the atmosphere of the legendary Silver Age .

Story

The poor poet (perhaps Blok himself), his ghost lady and the third character, elusively hinting at the beauty and an article on Dantes , are not immersed by the authors in the feast of aesthetics , but in the simple and eternal reality of our sinful world. Tormented by passions, they are sometimes pathetic, sometimes beautiful in their own way, but how insignificant are their impulses, which fit entirely into the scheme of a classic love triangle. And only the Poet’s imagination, even whipped up with cocaine , can transform this wretchedness into a hymn to the eternal confrontation of two men who have fallen in love with one woman.

Filming

Work on the film began in 1994 according to a script that does not resemble the final film at all. The picture was shot in the very place where Alexander Blok composed the poem “Above the Lake”, as well as the famous “Stranger”. This is the Shuvalovo-Ozerki station, where at the beginning of the 20th century, artistic youth and the nobility loved to relax in the summer seasons. Some plans of the film were shot on the spot, from where the surrounding is described in the Blok's poem with an accuracy of several meters. The music for the film was composed and recorded in 2006 by the classical composer Sergei Alexandrovich Oskolkov . [1] The initial version of the 1995 film was 15 minutes, but then the whole scene was cut from it by the director, which reduced the film by a third. The film was shot on a camera with a manual drive, reminiscent of the technique of shooting films in the era of silent cinema. [one]
