Icon History
According to legend, the Mother of God appeared to a local man in Podkamen , thus thanking him for his piety, and left a footprint in their memory [1] .
The coronation of the icon was carried out in August 15, 1727 in the Dominican monastery in Podkamena . At the coronation of the local miraculous icon of the Mother of God, the interior of the church was decorated with murals and carvings. 56 guns were used to create a formal atmosphere. During the celebration, 4169 mass were served, 28 000 lamps and candles burned out. The sermon at the coronation is Kazimir Grushecki [2] (a monk of the monastic order, from the Polish line of Grushecki ). The crown for coronation was brought by Mikhail Pototsky (1660-1749) on behalf of Benedict XIII .
On March 12, 1944 , during a terrible pogrom in Podkamen (several hundred old people, children and women were killed), only a miraculous icon was saved - through Kremenets , Lviv and Krakow it got to Wroclaw , where it is still located in the church of St. Wojciech.
