Biography
A native of the city of Ortelsburg (East Prussia). He began his service in the 17th Infantry Regiment (Braunschweig). October 5, 1937 joined the Military Academy, which he graduated in 1939, then continued to serve in the 1st Army of Army Group C on the Western Front (commander Colonel-General Erwin von Witzleben ). Since the fall of 1941 - on the Soviet-German front in the 50th infantry division of the 11th army of Army Group South . At the end of 1941, he led the fight against partisans in the Crimea. In June-July 1944, in the OKH reserve, then continued his service in military intelligence at the OKH in the department “Foreign Armies of the East”. From August 15, 1944, he was an “1-ts” officer at the headquarters of the Northern Ukraine Army Group (from March 30, 1944, Army Group South).
