Biography
Pupil of the club "Boca Juniors Kali." In 1993 he made his debut in the Mustang Cup , having successfully spent the season for “Onse Caldas” from Manizales - in 28 championship matches the young midfielder scored 11 goals scored. The following year, he moved to the club "America" from his hometown of Cali, where he spent the next 2.5 years. Hernandez in 1996 helped his club for the fourth time in history to reach the final of the Libertadores Cup (in the tournament he scored 2 goals), where he took part only in the home match. "America", like 10 years earlier, lost to the Argentinean River Plate .
In 1996-1999, Hernandez played for the Independiente from Medellin . He was one of the main leaders of the team during this period, having played over 100 matches and scoring 20 goals. Hernandez had roughly the same stable and high indicators in the next two clubs, for which he played in 2000-2006 - at Deportivo Cali and the Argentinean Colon from Santa Fe .
The period of the early 2000s was also the best for Giovanni and the Colombian team. In 2001, with the national team, he won the country's first America's Cup. At the winning tournament, he scored 2 goals. Although the Colombians did not have enough to get to the 2002 World Cup , the following year the winners of the America's Cup took 3rd place in the Confederations Cup. Hernandez became one of the stars of the tournament, having marked 5 goals in 5 matches of the national team.
In 2004, Hernandez did not play very well for the national team, while in Colon, for which he brilliantly began the Argentinean stage of his career, his performance deteriorated somewhat. Despite this, in 2005 Hernandez was interested in the legendary Boca Juniors , which offered Colon 5 million euros. However, Colon agreed to cede its leader for at least 8 million and the deal did not take place.
In the end, Hernandez ended up in the Chilean Colo Colo in 2007, which then brought together a super-powerful roster of players who swept everything in its path both in Chile and in many ways even in the international arena (Chilean Grand in 2006 reached the finals of the South American Cup , where he was a favorite, but sensationally lost to the Mexican Pachuca in terms of matches). The year 2007 turned out to be a shock for both Hernandez (12 goals in 27 matches of the Chilean championship) and for Kolo-Kolo, who won both national championships - both Apertur and Klausur.
Since 2008, Giovanni Hernandez has been playing for the Junior from Barranquilla . He helped the team escape from relegation to the lower division and is now one of the most beloved players among the fans.
During his career, Hernandez has established himself as a hardworking player who has an accurate pass and, if necessary, can connect himself to the attack, completing combinations and differing from medium and long distances. He is also known for his Christian religiosity, which is demonstrated during the celebration of the goals ( Catholic motifs are depicted on his T-shirt, wearing a basic T-shirt).
