The cars were designed to replace the Fiat 1200 . Models 1300 and 1500 were almost the same, but differed in engine size, which was reflected in their names. Cars were produced in sedan , station wagon and convertible versions . They all had a slightly different body style, but at the same time they had the same 1300 or 1500 engine installed.
Also 1300/1500 and modifications based on them were produced in Yugoslavia at the Zastava plant and at the Fiat-controlled German automobile plant Neckar . The 1500C layout was used as the basis for the next model - the Fiat 125 , while manufactured in Poland at the FSO Polski Fiat 125p factory, it was designed by combining the body from the 125 model and mechanics (engine, gearbox, suspension) from 1300/1500. In Italy, the 1300 was replaced by the Fiat 124 in 1966, and the 1500 was replaced by the Fiat 125 a year later [1] .
Engine
On 1300/1500 models, the engine was located in the front, longitudinally, transmitting torque through a four-speed gearbox to the rear wheels. Car engines had the same design, differing only in volume [1] :
- Fiat 1300-1295 cm³ (cylinder diameter 72 x stroke 79.5 mm), capacity 60 l. with. @ 5,200 rpm
- Fiat 1500—1481 cm³ (cylinder diameter 77 x stroke 79.5 mm), capacity 73 l. with. @ 5,200 rpm
A novelty at the time was the use of disc brakes on the front wheels [2] .
Both versions of the car had a base length of 2425 mm, but since 1964 the base of 1500 was increased to 2505.
