Biography
In the second half of the 19th century, China had strong anti-Christian sentiments. They reached their peak in 1899-1901. during their étuan rebellion , when a massive persecution of Christians began in China. On July 11, 1900, Anna An Jiao was arrested by the rebels along with her relatives Maria An Linghua , Anna An Xin and Maria An Guo . The rebels demanded that they abandon Christianity . The arrested women remained faithful to their faith and were taken outside the village and killed.
Praise
Anna An Xin was beatified on April 17, 1955 by Pope Pius XII and canonized on October 1, 2000 by Pope John Paul II along with a group of 120 Chinese martyrs .
