Biography
Gusenko Pavel Yakovlevich was born on July 3 (16), 1914 in the city of Yekaterinoslav . He graduated from a railway technical school, worked as an electrician in a factory. In 1936 he was drafted into the Red Army , in 1938 he graduated from the Voroshilovgrad military aviation school.
Participation in the Great Patriotic War
Member of the Great Patriotic War since June 1941 . He fought on the Volkhov , Northwest , Leningrad , Kalinin , Voronezh , Stepnoy , 1st and 2nd Ukrainian fronts as part of the 81st Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment ( 1st Guards Bomber Aviation Division , 2nd Guards Bomber Aviation Corps (first formation) , 5th Air Army ). He went from a flight commander to a squadron commander of dive bombers . He made about 200 sorties, as a result of which he destroyed a lot of enemy manpower and equipment.
On June 2, 1944, the regiment commander introduced P.Ya. Gusenko to confer the title of Hero of the Soviet Union . By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 26, 1944, Captain Gusenko Pavel Yakovlevich was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for the exemplary performance of command missions on the front of the fight against Nazi invaders and the courage and courage of the guard . But the hero did not live to see this day. On September 20, 1944 , when a bomb was struck in the vicinity of the railway junction of the city of Presov, his plane was shot down by enemy anti-aircraft artillery fire. Guard Captain Gusenko sent his burning plane to the enemy echelon and died the hero’s death. He was buried in the village of Zales ( Poland ). September 27, 1944 for the accomplished feat was re-submitted to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union . According to this submission, he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree (Order of the 2nd Air Army No. 18 / n of August 30, 1946) [2]
