Bronislaw Bachko ( Polish. Bronisław Baczko , June 12, 1924 , Warsaw , Poland - August 29, 2016 ) - Polish and French historian, philosopher, translator. Specialist in research of collective memory, the history of utopian thought, the history of the French Revolution .

Biography

Professor of the University of Warsaw , Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In the 1940-1950s - one of the main ideologues of the socialist regime in Poland. He fought against the non-Marxist views of T.Kotarbinsky and others. In the 1960s, like Leszek Kolakowski , close to the Warsaw School of History of Ideas , experienced the influence of existentialism . He published an anthology of translations from the philosophy of the French Enlightenment ( 1961 ), a monograph on Rousseau ( 1964 ). He taught, among his students - Jerzy Shatsky , etc. In 1969 he was forced to emigrate. Since 1974 - Professor of the University of Geneva , since 1989 - Professor Emeritus.
