Content
History
In 1993, the company was separated from Sonat and was named Sonat Offshore Drilling. In 1996, the Norwegian Transocean ASA group of companies was acquired and a decision was made to name the acquired company. In 2000, it merged with Sedco Forex, and the company became known as Transocean Sedco Forex. In 2001, Reading & Bates Falcon was purchased. The company name was simplified to Transocean in 2003.

The staff of the company as of March 2009 totals 26 300 people. Fleet - 136 units (ships and drilling platforms).
On July 23, 2007, the company announced a merger with GlobalSantaFe Corporation. It was completed on November 27 of that year.
Deepwater Horizon Drilling Platform Blast
On April 21, 2010, an explosion occurred on the company’s Deepwater Horizon drilling platform, which commissioned BP [1] to drill offshore the Gulf of Mexico 80 kilometers off the coast of Louisiana.
