Stephen Graham Bennett ( born January 17, 1961 ) is an English football referee who completed his career. Judged the matches of the English Premier League . Until 2006, he was an FIFA arbiter.

Career
Bent has been a soccer referee since 1984, starting a career in his native county of Kent . Since 1995, he began to serve the matches of the Football League , and since 1999, the Premier League . In 2001, he was appointed FIFA arbiter.
In 2002, he was the judge of a football match between the teams of Bhutan and Montserrat , who occupied the lowest places in the ranking of the FIFA teams . The match was held at Changlimitang Stadium in Thimphu , Bhutan . The game took place on the same day as the World Cup final between the national teams of Germany and Brazil . In 2004, FIFA President Sepp Blatter criticized Bennett's decision to show a second yellow card and remove Tim Cahill from the field for taking off his shirt, celebrating a goal against Manchester City . [2]
In 2005, Bennett served the final match of the Football League Cup , in which Liverpool and Chelsea played (Chelsea won with a score of 3: 2).
In 2007, Bennett was appointed chief arbiter of the FA Cup final , in which Chelsea and Manchester United met. [3] Chelsea won this match with a score 1: 0 due to a goal from Didier Drogba scored in extra time . [4] In this match, Bennett showed 7 yellow cards, 4 of which in extra time. In the first period of overtime, a hit by Ryan Giggs caught Peter Cech . Giggs said the ball crossed the goal line, although it hit the goalkeeper and may have brought it into the goal along with the ball. Bennett did not mark the goal. After the match, Giggs commented on this incident: “ The ball definitely crossed the goal line — and I curled the referee about this. On March 22, 2008, Bennett was at the center of a new scandal after he showed the second yellow card for talking and removed Javier Mascherano from the field in the match between Manchester United and Liverpool . [6] Mascherano stated: “ I do not know why I was removed. I asked the arbiter what was going on. I did not swear, was not aggressive, and did not face him. All I did was ask him what was going on, nothing more. Therefore, when he showed me the second yellow card and deleted me, I could not believe it .
