Lovitel is a safety device designed to stop and hold the moving elements of the main device in the event of an abnormal situation (exceeding the operating speed, breakage of traction elements, etc.).
According to the safety rules in coal mines, belt conveyors should be equipped with devices that catch the loaded branch of the belt in the event of its breaking.
The braking force generated by the working body of the safety device can be applied to the traction element of the conveyor or to the roller carriages of the belt conveyor. The first method is most common. The braking of the traction element is carried out by mechanisms (grippers), and in some cases by fixed elements with a special metal construction of the conveyor. The application of the braking force to the roller supports provides for a simple and reliable mechanism ( ratchet , overrunning clutch ), which stops the roller when the tape breaks.
