Biography

In 1539, Francis I married Lamarck to the eldest daughter of Diana de Poitiers - Countess de Molièvre . This union brought the following offspring:

  • Henri-Robert de Lamarck (1539-74), 1st Prince of Sedan, 2nd Duke of Bouillon; wife - Francoise de Bourbon-Montpensier .
  • Charles-Robert de Lamarck (1541-1622), Count de Mauleurier and de Bren; married three times.
  • Antoinette de Lamarck (1542-1591); husband - Henry I de Montmorency , France’s constable .
  • Diana de Lamarck (1544-c. 1612); husband - Jacques of Cleves, Duke of Nevers .
  • Guillemetta de Lamarck (1545-1592); husband - Count Jean III de Luxembourg-Linyi .
  • Francoise de Lamarck (1547-1608), abbess of the monastery in Avenue.
  • Catherine de Lamarck (1548-90); husband - Jacques d'Arle , the minion of the Duke of Alencon and the lover of his sister Margot .

At 17, Lamarck was promoted to captain of the Swiss Guard; at 35, with the assistance of his powerful mother-in-law, he became Marshal of France . He took part in the capture of Metz (1552) and temporarily expelled the Spaniards from Bouillon, to which he claimed the right of ancestors. The Spaniards captured him and did not release him until Lamarck pledged part of his land for ransom and accepted the poison, which turned out to be fatal.

It is believed that Charles V of Habsburg ordered the assassination of the Marshal because he saw in sedan Lamarck the traitors to the empire and personal enemies. Abbot Brantom disputes this version of the death of Marshal de Bouillon, hinting that he was poisoned by his own relatives.
