Skater career
During her professional career as a figure skater, Zueva played for the USSR. Her partner was Andrew Wittmann . Trained a couple of Elena Tchaikovsky . They won bronze twice in the national championships and were part of the national team. In 1977, the couple was fifth at the European Championships [1] and the World [2] , sixth at the 1978 European Championships [1] and seventh at the World Championships [2] of the same year.
Choreographer
In the late 1970s, Zueva completed her career and began working as a choreographer at CSKA . In parallel with this, she studied at GITIS on the course of M. Zakharov . Particularly successful was her collaboration with Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergey Grinkov , for whom she staged programs such as Moonlight Sonata, Vocalization , Romeo and Juliet . And after the skaters became two-time Olympic champions, she continued to work with them on professional ice. When Catherine, after the sudden death of Sergei began to perform in solo skating , Zueva still remained nearby [3] .
Conflict with S. A. Zhuk
A special place in her career is occupied by a conflict with coach S. A. Zhuk . As Zhuk pointed out, Marina Zueva and figure skater Anna Kondrashova wrote a letter to the Central Committee of the CPSU accusing him of “immoral behavior”, without providing evidence, which provoked the start of “persecution” of the coach [4] [5] . As a result, the couple Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergey Grinkov were transferred from Zhuk to Marina Zueva and Stanislav Leonovich . Subsequently, S. A. Zhuk was gradually completely removed from coaching.
Current Activities
In 1991, M. Zueva, at the invitation of the Canadian club, left for Canada, Ottawa. She trained Canadian couples, her son Fyodor Andreev , Canadian loner Karin Kadevi . In 2002, Zueva moved to Detroit , where Igor Shpilband worked, with whom she developed a coaching tandem. Shpilband is responsible for the technique of skiing and compulsory dancing , and she works on the original and free programs [6] . The coaching tandem worked at the Arctic Figure Skating Club in Canton , Michigan , USA . Currently, Marina Zueva and Igor Shpilband do not work together. The programs that she comes up with for her students are distinguished by unusual supports. By his own admission, Zuev draws inspiration for her creative finds, studying the history of not only figure skating, but also the circus, ballet. She learned this from Stanislav Zhuk , with whom she was fortunate enough to work with and who taught her not to lock herself in a narrow framework [7] . Her current and former students include Olympic champions Vancouver Tessa Vertyu and Scott Moir [8] , Olympic champions Sochi Meryl Davis and Charlie White [9] , silver medalists in the Turin Olympics Tanit Belbin and Benjamin Agosto , young athletes Madison Chock and Greg Zuerlin [10] ] , Maya and Alex Shibutani [11] and many others. In addition, he continues to stage the program as a choreographer for single athletes and sports couples.
