After he began working with ext2 file system developers, addressing performance issues, he led the development of the ext3 file system, due to which a level of logging was added to ext2. [1] Andrew Morton dubbed Stephen “a true artisan” for his work on journalism. [2]
Born in Edinburgh , Scotland , in 1969. Tweedy studied computer science at Churchill College , Cambridge, and at the University of Edinburgh , [3] where he defended his dissertation, Contention and Achieved Performance in Multicomputer Wormhole Routing Networks . [4] After contributing to the Linux kernel, he worked on the VMS file system in his spare time in his spare time in the early 1990s, and also worked as support for DEC for two years, after which Tweedy hired Red Hat as a Linux distributor where he continued to work on the Linux kernel.
Tweedy published a number of works on Linux, including Design and Implementation of the Second Extended Filesystem in 1994, [5] Journaling the Linux ext2fs Filesystem in 1998, [6] and Planned Extensions to the Linux Ext2 / Ext3 Filesystem in 2002. [ 7]
Tweedie also frequently speaks on Linux kernel development issues at technical conferences. Among other things, he negotiated the development of the kernel in 1997 and 1998 at the USENIX Annual Technical Conference , [8] [9] the UKUUG conference in London in 2000, [10] and delivered a keynote speech on Linux symposium in Ottawa in 2002.
