Joey Cheek has been successful in roller skating. From the age of fifteen he began to engage in speed skating. He participated in the world championships for juniors in 1996, 1997 and 1998.
From 1999 to 2006, Chick lived in Park City, near Salt Lake City , where he trained with the US national team.
Joey Cheek participated in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and won a bronze medal at a distance of 1000 meters. At a distance of 1,500 meters, he took fourth place, behind the third prize winner by 0.08 seconds.
At the 2003 World Championship for individual distances in Berlin, Chick won bronze medals at distances of 1000 and 1500 meters.
In January 2006, Joey Chick became the world champion in sprint all-around in the Dutch city of Heerenveen .
At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Joey Chick won a gold Olympic medal at a distance of 500 meters and a silver medal at a distance of 1000 meters. Chick's time at a distance of 500 meters is 34.82 and 34.94 seconds. The result of 34.82 was an unofficial world record for lowland ice rinks. At the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Turin, Joey Chick was entrusted with the banner of the United States.
In 2006, Joey Chick ended his career as a skater. He took up social activities. He handed over his cash prize for winning the Olympics in Turin ( $ 25,000) and for third place ($ 15,000) to Johan-Ulaf Koss Foundation "Right To Play". Joey Chick is a co-founder of the Team Darfur coalition. This international coalition brings together athletes who seek to inform the public about the events in Darfur and are making efforts to resolve the crisis in Darfur.
Joy Chick entered Princeton University , where he studies economics and Chinese .
