Biography

Educated in the Naval Cadet Corps , where he entered in 1779.

Made in 1782 in midshipmen, he made practical voyages in the Baltic Sea . May 1, 1784 was promoted to warrant officer .

In 1788, Leontovich received the rank of lieutenant and on the ship "Vladislav" participated in the Battle of the Hogland with the Swedes , and was captured with the ship. Released from captivity in 1790, he was sent to England in 1793 to be a volunteer in the English fleet , in 1796 he was promoted to lieutenant commander . Leontovich was in the English fleet until 1798, when he was promoted to captain of the 2nd rank and transferred to the Black Sea Fleet .

Commanding the Simeon and Anna ship, he participated in the Archipelago expedition in the detachment of Rear Admiral Pustoshkin , in 1799 he participated in the capture of the Corfu fortress on the same ship, was cruising between Corfu , Ancona , Messina and Livorno and participated in the bombing of the port of Mauritius and in the blockade of Genoa . For the sinking of the French convoy ships, Leontovich was awarded the Order of St. John of Jerusalem .

Made in 1801 as captain of the 1st rank, he sailed on different ships until 1805, and in 1804 he commanded a detachment of frigates in the Mediterranean Sea . This year, he was appointed corrective of the squadron major and was under the chief commander of the Black Sea Fleet for the inspectorate, in 1806 he was a member in the office of the Black Sea Fleet until its abolition, in 1807 he was promoted to captain-commander and the following year he was appointed position of Chief Quartermaster at the Black Sea executive and construction expeditions.

January 8, 1809 he was promoted to rear admiral . November 4 of the same year was appointed to be on an economic expedition.

Among other awards, Leontovich had the Order of St. George 4th degree, granted to him on November 26, 1804 for conducting 18 naval semi-annual campaigns (No. 1593 according to the cavalier list of Grigorovich - Stepanov).

Leontovich died in June 1811.
