History
In 1934, the institute scientist F. M. Zorin, in order to obtain new, frost-resistant citrus varieties, planted a wild lemon tree in the garden. In his crown, he consistently instilled Japanese mandarins, Spanish oranges, Chinese kinkan , Italian lemons, grapefruits, and others - a total of 45 types and varieties of citrus. In 1940, the famous polar explorer O. Y. Schmidt inoculated this tree in memory of his visit to the garden. In 1957, three Vietnamese doctors suggested calling this unique tree-garden a tree of Friendship. By now, branches growing on it from 167 countries of the world are growing on it. In total, more than 630 vaccinations were made by hands of the heads of many states, prominent public and political figures, cosmonauts, scientists and representatives of culture. Next to the tree of friendship grows another 60 young trees of friendship. They were planted by people from different countries, representatives of different professions. In the garden there are trees from the USA , Poland , Canada , Japan and other countries.
In 1981, at the initiative of the successor of Zorin’s case, Lyudmila Makarovna Dmitrienko, a museum was opened in the garden (architects E. I. Borkalov, A. I. Saveliev). Its exhibits were gifts to the Friendship tree of people from different countries of the world. These are national souvenirs, letters, photos, relics, musical instruments, coins, badges, boxes with the earth from memorable and historical places. In total, the museum holds over 20 thousand gifts from all over the world.
