
The 18th Infantry Regiment ( 18th Infantry Regiment ) - a military unit of the U.S. Army , existing since 1861 . It currently exists formally and is represented by two separate battalions.
The 18th Regiment was one of nine new regiments created as part of the expansion of the Regular Army in 1861. The regiment received its baptism of fire on April 24, 1862 during the Civil War in the United States . Later he participated in a number of other military conflicts:

The regiment has been part of the 1st Infantry Division since its inception in 1917 . Currently, the 1st Battalion of the 18th Regiment is based in Fort Riley ( Kansas ). The 2nd battalion was stationed in Baumholder ( Germany ) until 2012, then it was disbanded. [one]
On May 9, 2010, soldiers of the 2nd Battalion of the 18th Infantry Regiment took part in a parade on Red Square dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the victory in World War II . [2]
