Mazar Kozy Korpesh and Bayan Sulu - mausoleum of X - XI centuries , located in the Ayagoz district of East Kazakhstan region , 7 km south-west of the village Tarlauly, on the right bank of the river Ayaguz , 11 km west of the station Tansyk. Mazar is associated with the names of the heroes of the lyric-epic poem , is one of the oldest monuments of Kazakhstan that have survived to our time with some changes in appearance [1] .
Description
The total height of the mazar is 11.65 m, the wall thickness is 1.86 m [1] . The entrance of the mausoleum from the east has small windows measuring 0.7 × 0.5 cm [1] . In front of the entrance to the mausoleum, four sculptures were installed in pairs, which, according to popular legend, are depicted by Kozy Korpesh, Bayan Slu, her younger sister and daughter-in-law [1] .
Initially, the volumetric composition of the mazar with a square plan (from the outer side 7.1 × 7.1 m, from the inner 3.38 × 3.38 m) was a four-sided pyramid formed by letting in rows of horizontal masonry and topped with a figured spire [1] .
History
In 1856, a mausoleum and sculptures next to it were painted by Chokan Valikhanov [1] . In 1858, the mausoleum was surveyed by Nikolai Abramov , in 1898 - by Nikolai Pantusov [1] .
In 1952, the monument was investigated by an archaeological expedition of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR under the direction of Alkei Margulan [1] .
In 1982, the Mazar of Kozy Korpesh and Bayan Sulu was included in the list of historical and cultural monuments of the Kazakh SSR of republican significance and taken under state protection [2] .
