Biography

Chipmunk is the son of one of the founders of the Kazakh Khanate Kerey Khan. He became a khan of the Kazakh Khanate in 1474. In the sources describing the period of the reign of Burunduk Khan, the names of several other Kazakh sultans are also mentioned, among which the most authoritative was the son of Zhanibek Khan - Kasym-Sultan (wandered around Lake Balkhash and the Karatal River ).

At the same time, Burunduk Khan was inferior in military force to Kasym (the number of subordinates, according to Muhammad Haidar, reached one million people) and Zhanysh-sultan (the number of subordinates, which, according to "Mihman-name-i Bukhara", reached one hundred thousand people). Although Chipmunk continued to be considered the main khan, the power of Kasim, who, commanding the Kazakh troops, distinguished himself in battles with Muhammad Sheybani Khan , was so great that, according to Muhammad Haidar, no one thought about Chipmunk [2] .

The Kazakh sultans supported Kasym, because with every military campaign he captured military booty for the nobility, so his authority grew so much that, without having a khan’s title, he was actually recognized as a khan of all Kazakhs, and the legal khan Burunduk was not popular. Therefore, according to the information of Muhammad Haidar of the year 915 of the Hijra (1509/1510), although Burunduk was a khan, the reign of the khanate and all the fullness of power belonged to Kasym-khan [2] .

A source of unknown authorship "Tavarihi guzidei nosrat nama" reports [1] :

The son of Janibek Kasym forced Chipmunk Khan to retire to Maverannahr . In 1511, Khan Burunduk was deposed, but Kasym saved his life and allowed him to retire to Maverannahr. "

Chipmunk left his native steppes forever - he went to Samarkand , where one of his daughters lived; there he later died [1] .

Children of the Chipmunk Khan

Chipmunk had four sons and several daughters. The Nusrat Nama lists the names of his three sons in this order. Shaykhim. Nothing is known about the circumstances of his life; he had a son named Yar Muhammad. Sanjar Jahan. In the sources known to us there is no information about him. Jahan Bakhti. Whether he had children or not is also not known. Kimsin.

The message about him, as far as is known, is contained only in the work of Kadyrali-bey. According to him, Kimsin-Sultan, the son of Burunduk Khan, had a daughter, Chuyum-khanim, who was married to Ondan-Sultan, the son of Shigai Khan, the son of Jadik, the son of Janibek Khan. In another place of his work, Kadyrali-bey writes: “There was a Chipmunk-khan: his family (carried) lost the khan’s dignity.” However, he does not cite the names of the descendants of the Chipmunk.

The daughters of the Chipmunk are known in history more than his sons. One of them, Dadym-khanim, married the grandson of Zhanibek-khan, Sultan Shigay , who later became a khan [3] .

Through the other three daughters, Chipmunk in 1494 became related to the Sheibanids . One married Sheibani Khan himself , the second to the brother of Sheibani Khan Mahmud Sultan , and the other to his son Muhammad Timur Sultan . Her name was Mihr Sultan Khanum. She was a very respected and wealthy lady in Samarkand , where she had huge land plots. She was known as the patroness of science and the arts. It was to her that Chipmunk Khan, abandoned by his subjects. Some time later, he died at her place in Samarkand [4] [5] .
