Mark Mikhailovich Golubchik ( August 6, 1934 , Kiev - November 25, 2001 , Saransk ) is a Soviet and Russian economic and political geographer, country expert, author of many scientific works and textbooks for higher education [1] . Scientific research of M. M. Golubchik is devoted to the problems of economic and social geography of developing countries, the geography of natural resources of the world, the spatial structure of the world economy, political geography, economic and geographical geography. At the turn of the XX – XXI centuries, he took 42nd place among the best geographers in the world. In 2004, a book was published in memory of M. M. Golubchik.

Biography
Mark Golubchik was born in 1934 in Kiev in the family of Mikhail and Rachel Golubchikov. In 1942, the child was evacuated from Kiev to Bazarny Karabulak [2] (Saratov Region, USSR).
In 1957 he graduated with honors from the Geography Department of the Saratov State University named after N. G. Chernyshevsky. He was the only Stalin scholarship holder at the faculty.
In 1957 - 1960 Mark Mikhailovich worked as a geography teacher in high schools of the Orenburg region and Saratov . In 1960 - 1963 M. M. Golubchik studied at the graduate school of the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute named after V.I. Lenin.
Since 1963, M. M. Golubchik is a senior lecturer, and since 1968, he is the head of the Department of Economic Geography of the Novosibirsk State Pedagogical Institute. In 1970, he moved to Saransk and began working at Ogarev Mordovian State University as an assistant professor, then as head of the department of economic geography (1979 - 2001).
He taught courses “Economic and political geography of foreign countries”, “Geography of the world economy”, “History and methodology of geographical science”, “World economy” and others.

Scientific activity
M. M. Golubchik began with works in the spirit of classical geography, having published in 1968 the monograph “The Federal Republic of Cameroon: An Economic-Geographical Characteristic” - the first domestic work in this republic. Since 1963 , M. M. Golubchik is a senior lecturer, and since 1968 , he is the head of the Department of Economic Geography of the Novosibirsk State Pedagogical Institute. In 1970 , he moved to Saransk and began working at Mordovia State University as an assistant professor, then - head of the department of economic (now - economic and social) geography ( 1979 - 2001 ). He taught courses “Economic and political geography of foreign countries”, “Geography of the world economy”, “History and methodology of geographical science”, “World economy” and others.
In 1987 , his monograph “The Geography of Forest Resources and Forestry of Developing Countries” was published, which sets out the experience of the complex geographical characteristics of forest resources and forestry in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Oceania, and considers the specificity, global change, and main features of world geography forest resources, environmental, economic and economic-geographical problems of their economic development. According to the results of research in 1990 , M. M. Golubchik defended his doctoral dissertation on the theme “Forest resource potential of developing countries and its use: economic and geographical analysis”, which sets out the experience of the complex geographical characteristics of forest resources and forestry in Asia, Africa, and Latin America and Oceania, the specificity, global change and the main features of the world geography of forest resources, environmental, economic and economic-geographical problems of their economic development are considered. Later, significant works on political geography and the geography of the world economy appeared. In the field of political geography, he was given a description of the main stages of the political and geographical history of mankind, the latest changes and the current state of the political map of the world as a whole and its large regions (highlighting the current political and geographical problems and events).
A significant role in the formation of the methodology of modern geography was played by collections of scientific works on geosystems, regularly published under the editorship of M. M. Golubchik. He made a great contribution to new areas of modern social geography - the study of the image, level and quality of life. The key to the last decades of the work of M. M. Golubchik can be considered textbooks for higher education. For about 20 years he was the head of the department of economic and social geography of Mordovia State University, was a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, and worked actively in the Head Council on Geographical Sciences of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. Head of research projects on grants from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, Russian State Humanitarian Fund, Fund of Fundamental Natural Sciences. M. M. Golubchik published more than 200 scientific papers, including 17 monographs and textbooks for higher education. Under his editorship, more than 10 collections of scientific articles were published.
