Biography

Alejandro Cassona was born into a family of teachers in the village of Besullo ( Spanish: Besullo ) in the municipality of Cangas del Narcea in the province of Asturias in northern Spain . He studied at the universities of Oviedo and Murcia ( University of Murcia ). In addition, in Murcia, he graduated from the school of recitation and stage art [2] .

In 1924, Casona became an actor in the Madrid troupe "Written Bird" [2] .

Since 1928 he worked as a teacher. In 1931 he organized the People's Theater in Madrid [3] .

After General Franco came to power in Spain in 1939, Alejandro Casona emigrated and lived in Mexico and Argentina until 1963 [4] .

Casona's work reflected the influence of symbolism and expressionism . His comedies and dramas are closely related to the traditions of the Spanish folk theater [3] .
