At the beginning of the surah, a woman is told that the husband forbade himself. Then, the provision on redemption (kaffar) associated with the pagan ritual “az-zihar” is explained. Then the ethics of conversation with each other and with the messenger is indicated.
| Allah has already heard the words of a woman who entered into an argument with you about her husband and complained to Allah. Allah has heard your argument, for Allah is Hearer, Seer. Of those of you who declare your wives to be forbidden to yourself, the words are reprehensible and deceitful. Their wives are not their mother, because only their women are their mothers. Verily Allah is the Indulgent, Forgiving. Those who declare their wives forbidden to themselves, and then renounce what was said, must free one slave before they touch each other. You are being exhorted by this, and Allah knows what you are doing. If someone cannot do this, then he must fast for two months without a break before they touch each other. And he who is incapable of this must feed the sixty poor. This is done so that you believe in Allah and His messenger. These are the limitations of Allah, and for unbelievers an excruciating suffering awaits. 58: 1-4 ( Kuliev ) |
