Career
In clubs
From the 1988/89 season, Henriksen played in the lower Danish divisions for AB from Copenhagen . He began to play as an attacker , but in the end he revealed himself as a central defender. In the 1995/96 season, he entered the Super League with the club, and a year before the team reached the final of the Danish Cup . Only at the age of 27, Rene became a base player of the Copenhagen, before that he was a replacement player. In the 1998/99 season , Akademisk first entered the top three clubs in the country, and also won the Cup , after which Henriksen moved to the Greek Panathinaikos , the deal amounted to kr 20,000,000 [1] .
As part of the Greek club, Rene reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League 2001/02 , where they were beaten by Barcelona , and in the 2003/04 season they won the championship and the Greek Cup . In 2000, Henriksen was named the “ Footballer of the Year in Denmark ”.
In the 2005/06 season, he returned to AB, who almost flew out of the First Division of Denmark. This season was the last for Renee.
Team
In 1998, Bu Johansson invited Henriksen to the Danish national team , calling him "the new Morten Olsen ." Having spent several friendly matches for the national team, Henriksen was included in the application for participation in the 1998 World Cup , but did not enter the field there.
Henriksen went to Euro 2000 already in the rank of an indispensable defense player and completely played all 3 matches of the team in the tournament. At the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004, the team reached the quarter finals, and Henriksen was also indispensable.
