Three surnames of the Protopopovs are entered in Gerbovnik:
- The offspring of Galtzeskago, in baptism Alexander, who left Russia for the Grand Duke Vasily Ivanovich German (Coat of arms. Part VII. No. 22) and granted patrimonies , who had a son Stanislav, who later became the Alexandrov-Protopopovs by the will of the great sovereigns.
- The offspring of the clerk Ivan Feofanovich, who had the estate in 1676 (Coat of arms. Part VII. No. 125).
- Descendants of Ivan Protopopov, recorded in 1686 in the Velvet Book and granted by the estate. (Coat of arms. Part VI. No. 123) [1] [2] .
The clerk of Ivan the Terrible was Oleg Protopopov (1573) [3] .
When submitting documents (1686) for the introduction of the genus in the Velvet Book , the Protopopov family tree was provided [4] .
Likewise, many other Protopopovs of this kind served the Russian Throne with noble services in various ranks and owned villages. All this is proved by the help of the Bit Archive and extracts from the Scribe books , indicated in copies from the definition of the Kursk Noble Assembly .

The shield is divided horizontally into two, in the upper spatial half, cut diagonally into four parts, in a black field there is a golden cross and under it the same metal noble crown. In the right and left parts in a golden field, one black eagle wing, which comes from the side of the shield, is visible.
The shield is crowned with a noble helmet and a crown. The mark on the shield is red, lined with gold.

The coat of arms of the offspring who left for Russia from the Galtzsky Germans, in baptism Alexander: in the shield, divided perpendicularly in two, an octagonal silver star is depicted in the blue field in the right half and under it in the red field is the golden crescent with horns up (Polish coat of arms Leliva ), and in the left on the silver field is visible to half the flying black eagle in a golden crown on his head, having a sword in his paw. The shield is crowned with a noble helmet, above which two hands are visible in armor, down from the noble crown holding one sword, and on the surface of the crown are three ostrich feathers. The mark on the shield is blue and red, lined with gold. Shield holders : two lions [6] .

Based on the legends of ancient genealogists, the clan took its origin from Galtzsky, who had left "from Germany" to Russia, who was baptized under the name of Alexander [7] . His descendants, at the will of the great sovereigns, began to be called the Alexandrov-Protopopovs. Mozhaysky noble children Yuri and Ivan Protopopov are recorded in the Thousand Book of the best noblemen and noble children ( 1550 ). Yelizari Yuryevich was the governor of smooth ship ratification and was killed near Kesya in 1577 ; his son Vasily Elizarovich was the governor in Bryansk ( 1616 ). Peter Ivanovich Protopopov compiled scribe books of the Gorokhovetsky , Balakhninsky and Yuryevsky districts ( 1675 ), and then Izborsk district and 12 Pskov suburbs.

Coat of arms of the posterity of the clerk Ivan Feofanovich Protopopov: the shield is divided horizontally into two halves, of which in the upper blue field the golden key, sword and silver arrow are placed crosswise. In the lower half in the right, silver field, there is a lion standing on its hind legs, facing the right side, and in the left, gold field - a hive. The shield is crowned with a noble helmet and a crown. The mark on the shield is blue, lined with gold [6] .

Coat of arms of the Protopopovs: in the scarlet (red) shield, the golden rafter, burdened with three small crosses and accompanied by a silver sword with a golden hilt below, point up. The shield is crowned with a noble crowned helmet. Crest : three ostrich feathers, of which the middle one is golden and the extreme scarlet. Bait: scarlet, lined with gold [8] .

Coat of arms of the offspring of captain Mikhail Evgrafovich Protopopov: the shield is divided vertically. In the right half, the checkerboard is black with silver. In the left red half, a silver sword with a gold hilt, vertically, point up. Above the shield, a noble crowned helmet. Crest - a black dragon facing the right, with a golden beak and red wings, tail tip, eyes and tongue. The brush on the right is black with silver, on the left is red with silver [8] .
