Club career

Arsenal

From a young age, Cole played in the Arsenal , being a pupil of the club. Initially, he acted as a striker, but soon retrained as a flank defender. The first match for the main team of “Gunners” was played on November 30, 1999 against Middlesbrough in the League Cup match (the Londoners ended up losing that match in the penalty shootout ). After that, Ashley signed a professional contract on February 25, 2000, but before the end of the season he appeared on the field only once.

However, already in the next season, Cole began to compete for a place at the base with the Brazilian Silvinho , whose place he occupied during the recovery of the latter from injury. As a result, Arsene Wenger increasingly preferred to see Ashley in place of the left-back, and in the summer of 2001 Silvigno moved to Celta , finally losing his place to Cole. In 2004, Arsenal achieved a unique achievement, becoming the champion of England, without having suffered a single defeat. At the same time, Cole was one of the leaders of the team and at the end of the season was included in the symbolic team of the Premier League . Speed, endurance and technique easily allowed Cole to fit into the Gunners' game model.

In 2005, Cole was accused of agreeing to transfer to another club without notifying Arsenal management. The Premier League commission pleaded guilty and on June 2, 2005 was fined £ 100,000 for meeting in a London hotel with Jose Mourinho . The appeal filed in August was rejected, but the fine was reduced to £ 75,000. The Chelsea club and Jose Mourinho were fined £ 300,000 and £ 200,000 (reduced to £ 75,000) respectively for this incident.

Ashley spent his last season at Arsenal quite modestly, having spent just 14 matches in all tournaments per season, without showing the best examples of his game. Despite his desire to leave Arsenal, Cole signed a new contract on July 18, 2005 with a salary of about £ 70,000 per week.

Crystal Palace

To get playing practice, Cole was leased to the Crystal Palace club for the 1999/00 season, where he played 14 matches and scored 1 goal and helped the club maintain a place in the league. At the end of the season, the Arsenal coaching staff decided to return the young defender to the team.

Chelsea

On August 31, 2006, Ashley moved to Chelsea in exchange for defender William Gallas with a surcharge of £ 5 million. From the first season, Cole, along with Peter Cech , John Terry , Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba, became one of the team leaders and an unconditional starting player composition. According to the results of the 2009/2010 season (which became the champion for Chelsea), the defender was recognized as the best player of the year according to the PFA .

February 27, 2011 it became known about the incident that happened at the training base of the London “Chelsea”. Ashley Cole jokingly fired a shotgun at a young specialist who was an intern at the club. Cole brought a 22-caliber rifle to the club’s training base in Cobham, thinking the rifle was not charged, he found a harmless joke when he aimed and shot at 21-year-old Tom Cowan, who was on an internship at Chelsea. Fortunately, the wound was not fatal and through [4] [5] .

Cole's highest achievement at Chelsea was the victory in the Champions League final over Bayern in the penalty shootout, while Ashley realized his hit. Since 2013, Cole has become less and less likely to get into the starting lineup of the team, losing competition to younger partners.

Roma

In the summer of 2014, Cole moved as a free agent from Chelsea to Roma , signing a two-year contract with the Italian club. However, in the 2014/15 season, Ashley played only 11 matches. Roma head coach Rudi Garcia almost never used a defender during the pre-season matches of the 2015/16 season. Cole temporarily resigned himself to a lack of prospects for himself, but did not want to leave the club. The management allocated the number “0” for Ashley, and the head coach of the capital's club did not include the Englishman in the application for the season. The contract was terminated by mutual agreement on January 19, 2016 [6] .

Los Angeles Galaxy

January 27, 2016 moved to the Los Angeles Galaxy .

Derby County

On January 21, 2019, the 38-year-old defender moved to Derby County . The footballer’s contract with the “sheep” is designed until the end of the season 2018/19. August 18, announced the completion of a football career.

In the summer of 2019, Ashley Cole announced the completion of a gaming career. [7]
