International Day of Cooperatives

International Day of Cooperatives ( in other official UN languages : Arabic International Day of Cooperatives, Arabic اليوم الدولي للتعاونيات, Spanish Día International de las Cooperativas, Chinese 国际 合作社 日, French la Journée internationale des coopératives ) - In 1992 The UN General Assembly proclaimed the first Saturday of July 1995 a holiday - International Day of Cooperatives (resolution No. 47/90 of December 16) in celebration of the centenary of the International Cooperative Alliance , uniting over 700 million people.

In 1994, the General Assembly, given the fact that cooperatives became one of the necessary factors for socio-economic development, proposed annually celebrating this day (resolution No. 49/155 of December 23 ).

In his message in 2006, the UN Secretary-General emphasizes the importance of the events of Cooperative Day 2006 to promote peace and development. Cooperative cooperatives help build trust between people. The UN Secretary General calls on governments and civil society to understand the important contribution that the cooperative movement makes to peacebuilding and to a safer world.
