Biography
Nikolai Mitrofanovich Pozharsky was born on April 22 (May 6), 1899 in a peasant family in the village of Klin, now in the Venevsky district of the Tula region.
Having received secondary education, at the age of 13 he left for Moscow , where he worked as a “boy” in merchant shops. After some time, he began to attend the working-Marxist circles.
After returning to his native village in 1917, Nikolai Pozharsky opposed the kulaks and landowners.
In 1917 he joined the RCP (b) . In Moscow, he actively participated in the struggle for the establishment of Soviet power.
Military activity
He joined the Red Army in 1918 , fought against the troops of A. Kolchak , and also suppressed the uprising in Kronstadt . In the same year he graduated from artillery advanced training courses for the command staff of the Red Army.
Interwar years
From 1921 to 1931, Pozharsky served in regular and special purpose units, and was also the secretary of the party cell, a member of the party commission, a member of the Epiphanian district committee of the party and the county executive committee of workers, peasants and soldiers' deputies, and the Chulkovsky district executive committee of Tula. In 1929 and 1936 he graduated from advanced training courses for command personnel.
By Decree No. 945 of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR of June 4, 1940, Nikolai Mitrofanovich Pozharsky was awarded the military rank of Major General of Artillery.
Before the war, Nikolai Pozharsky served in the Far East as the head of the 102nd fortified area.
World War II
Since June 1941, he fought on the fronts of World War II.
From mid- 1942 until Victory Day, Pozharsky in the 62nd (from April 16, 1943 - 8th Guards ) army served as deputy commander of artillery, and on September 18, 1942 took over the post of commander of artillery.
From Stalingrad, General Pozharsky passed through Ukraine , Poland , Germany to Berlin .
The artillery commander of the 8th Guards Army , artillery lieutenant general Pozharsky, distinguished himself in the Vistula-Oder offensive operation . He, having correctly organized and planned the use of artillery of the 8th Guards Army, on January 14, 1945, led the artillery attack from the Magnushevsky bridgehead .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 6, 1945, for skillfully leading the army’s artillery while breaking through the enemy’s defense on the west bank of the Vistula River and ensuring the advance of the guard army, Artillery Lieutenant General Nikolai Mitrofanovich Pozharsky was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal The Star ”(No. 5173).
Nikolai Mitrofanovich Pozharsky died on September 12, 1945 .
The ashes of the Hero rest in the 1st Moscow crematorium (Donskoy; 1st Donskoy passage), the main hall, columbarium No. 2.
