Biography

Born on January 1, 1912 in the village of Strugovka (now in the Gordeevsky district of the Bryansk region). After graduating from high school, he studied at the mining school, then worked as a mining foreman at the Karl Liebknecht mine in the city of Krivoy Rog . He studied at the Physics and Mathematics Department of Odessa State University , after which he became the director of a secondary school in the village of Pogrebnyakovo ( Novgorodovsky District, Kirovohrad Region). In 1935 he graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Department of the Krivoy Rog Pedagogical Institute . From 1937 to 1939 he worked as the director of a secondary school in the village of Verblyuzhka in the Novgorodovsky district of the Kirovograd region.

In the Red Army since 1939 . Member of the Soviet-Finnish war.

During the Great Patriotic War

Member of the Great Patriotic War since June 1941 .

In 1943 he graduated from the Military Academy named after M.V. Frunze.

The commander of the 1180th Infantry Regiment ( 350th Infantry Division , 13th Army, 1st Ukrainian Front), Lieutenant Colonel Skopenko V.F. distinguished himself on July 29, 1944 when crossing the Vistula River. Under his able guidance, the regiment, at improvised means, crossed the river in the area of ​​the settlement Longzak (Poland). Then, brilliantly performing a roundabout maneuver, he liberated the city of Sandomierz from the German troops, thereby creating a bridgehead for the further advance of our units.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 23, 1944 for exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown to this, Lieutenant Colonel Skopenko Vasily Fedorovich was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal (No. 4589).

January 27, 1945 Colonel Skopenko Vasily Fedorovich died in battle near the city of Breslau .

Buried in the city of Sandomierz .
